A list of some apps on my Android device

I have been using smartphones for quite a while. My first smartphone (in 2005) was a Motorola E680 running a Linux powered OS.

Smart devices often go with smart apps and “smart” app stores. However, very often, we need to spend a lot of time to find, install, test and uninstall many applications to find just an ‘OK’ one that meets our requirements for a particular task. Sometimes, I have no choice but have to build an app myself when such an app is really needed and simply not available anywhere.

Below is a list of (some) apps on my Android phone. Hope that it will save your time and my time later. They are all free or lite (version) apps.

Disclaimer: I am not affiliated with any of these apps. All links are pointed directly to the Google Play store using its package ID. You have to check whether the apps are safe or workable for you at the time you are reading this list. Remember the world is dynamic and things on the Internet are always changing.

Note: some apps listed below may not be available in your particular country/territory. Some links can be broken over time since the apps can be simply removed from the app store by its developers or Google Store.

Tip: we can also find many free and good open-source apps on f-droid.org or github.com. If you have a computer with Android Studio installed, with a little bit of reading, you can modify and build your APK file from source code shared on the GitHub platform.

Bonus: How did I generate this list?

The easiest way

On Android, simply install this app:

The very hard way

(Somehow I did not see the listmyapp app above) You can easily use adb commands to list them if you have a computer. Here I simply use what I have on my phone to accomplish this task.

Step 1:
To list installed apps and package IDs, I use this ‘App Backup & Restore’ app:

Select apps backup them to a folder, let’s name this folder as “backup-dir” in phone storage. It will save APKs with this filename pattern:

For example with Chrome:

cd ~/storage/shared/backup-dir/

Then list its contents and save to a text file using this simple command:

Save the file, and while staying in the same folder with the file appOnMyAndroid.txt, simply run the linkapp.py with:

python3 linkapp.py

It will generate an HTML file appOnMyAndroidLink.html with lists of app names and its Google Store id links.

Ps: You can install and run python3 on Termux.
